During the race weekend, Fernando Alonso revealed the extreme physical toll caused by vibration inside his Formula One Car.
The Aston Martin driver explained that the vibration became so intense that he lost feeling in his hands and feet, forcing him to stop pushing the car further.
“I could barely feel my hands and feet. There was no point in continuing”
In Formula One, vibrations coming through the chassis and steering column can place enormous stress on a driver’s hands, arms, and nervous system. Over the course of a race, this constant force can lead to fatigue and even nerve irritation.
At Merlins F-Labs, Mikaela and Krishma study how modern sports science can help athletes recover from these extreme conditions. Precision recovery protocols and innovations being developed inside the lab aim to support the modern knights of motorsport as they push the limits of performance.
Below, watch the moment from the race.
